CThe initial registration fee for the short term rental application is $50. Galveston has a Hotel Occupancy Tax of 9% charged on gross revenues of the properties that include all charges and fees. There is an online system for reporting and paying taxes either on a monthly or quarterly basis located here, or to register go to hottax@galvestonparkboard.org or call (409) 797-5132. Properties that do not generate more than $500 per month in taxes or $1500 quarterly in taxes can report quarterly, with reports due on January 20th, April 20th, July 20th, and October 20th, otherwise reports are due by the 20th of the month following the reporting period. A report must be filed on time, even if there is no revenue, and not doing so will result in a $25 fine. Finally, you need to add your city-issued registration number to your listings, in accordance with the city’s regulations, and you must display your registration number on all advertisements for your short term rental.
